ABOUT FOSS
Who are we?
Friends of Sandon School (FOSS) is a charitable organisation made up of parents who work to raise money for the school. FOSS organise social events for adults and children alike. FOSS forms an integral part of the school’s fabric and all parents are very welcome to come along to the meetings and help in the planning and taking part in the events throughout the year. We are very grateful for all the very hard work they put in not only to raise money for the school but also to support us in every possible way they can.
Chair: Sally Pain Vice chair: Aileen Brown Treasurer: Sue Young Secretary: Laura Farrell
What do we do?
Most of our efforts go into organising events throughout the year, with the primary aim of fundraising for the school, but also with socialising and good fun in mind! Keep your eye out for us at open evenings and school information evenings. We sell soft drinks, cakes, cookies, tea and coffee and more to keep you going! You may also spot us serving refreshments at many of the school performances – concerts and drama productions.
Where does the money go to?
Money raised by the Friends supports the ‘extras’ that the school would not normally be able to afford. Requests for expenditure are made at the meetings, and approved or rejected after discussion. For example we might subsidise school trips or events to make them more affordable, or buy extra equipment for the school.
In recent years FOSS has funded all sorts of ‘extras’ for the school including new cameras for the Art department, PE equipment, head phones for the music department, new freezer for food tech, sewing machines and each year we pay for the Year 11 much-talked-about Leavers’ Breakfast!
Do I have to commit myself if I come to a meeting?
No! Please come and have your say whenever you can. Meetings are usually in the evenings (dates of meetings can be found on this website), and we’re really very friendly!
